Masses

If you are a Catholic living within Nagasaki Prefecture, please register with your local parish (they will provide all the necessary paperwork). Within the Nagasaki Archdiocese, most Masses are in Japanese. There are also a limited number in other languages. At the time of writing, these are as follows:

Masses in English

  • St. Philip’s Church in Nishizaka (next to the 26 Martyrs Museum, near Nagasaki station): 1pm on Sundays.
  • Miura Catholic Church (near Sasebo station): 1pm on Sundays.
  • Isahaya Catholic Church (near Isahaya station): 2pm on the 1st Sunday of each month.

Mass in Vietnamese

  • Isahaya Catholic Church (near Isahaya station): 3pm on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Holy Days of Obligation

In addition to the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, there are two further Holy Days of Obligation in Japan. These are as follows:

  • Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (January 1st)
  • Christmas (December 25th)
